chris brown has a hit song called 'forever'. it was originally developed for a wrigley's doublemint gum commercial (they paid for the recording session), but the song was so good they decided to also release it as a single. i love the music, but the lyrics feature the phrase, "double your pleasure, double your fun", a former slogan for the product.
that just bugs me, so i decided to do something about it. here's the original chorus with the phrase:
and here's my improved version:
the whole song (the phrase is repeated in three separate sections), was completed in about 30 minutes using nothing but a paid-for mp3 downloaded from amazon.com and the cut-n-paste functions in a free trial version of goldwave, a digital audio editor.
viva la hack.

2 deep thoughts:
Wow.
That's possible?
Cool.
I never knew that was the Wrigley's chewing gum slogan. But this trend is becoming more and more prevalent.
There is a major girl group overhere from the UK called the Sugababes and they've just released a song called "Here Come the Girls" and it was originally from a TV commercial. I don't mind when it works the other way, but when music artists start singing jingles it's all becoming a little incestuous and stagnant.
Also, have you ever noticed that EVERY SINGLE hip hop and pop music from video from the states has to have a shot of a cell phone. They usually try and tie it into the "storyline" of the clip but there is always a big, glaring, gratuitous close-up of the latest cell phone people should buy.
i realized that many people who know that song won't remember the slogan, so it probably won't bother them. though i think the original lyric feels forced anyway.
and ya, videos are a den of product placement iniquity. tv shows are too, but i remember geting really disgusted when the characters started saying the product names. 'alias', which was heavily sponsored by ford cars, had it's characters saying things like 'we'll take the ford explorer and meet you there.' sheesh.
