words to work by...

stu maschwitz has a new post up. for many most of the verbiage isn't relevant, being that it's ostensibly about feature-sets in cameras. but his point is that if the features don't make the accquisition of images you need for your film easier, then the fact that (with a lot of work), they can sometimes produce amazing images not before possible in prosumer cameras is irrelevant.

he makes a list of trade-offs to consider and it struck me that the last four are applicable to the entire create process:
  • Your story is told using the images you create, not the ones you intended to create.
  • You're not done editing until you've watched your film with an audience of people who don't care about your feelings.
  • Your film is still too long.
  • Your next film will be better. How's it coming?
